The Dindle (Part 5)

Image
Hopefully I'll have another graphic novel page to post tomorrow (along with part 6 of the Dindle story too.)

Also, here's my drawergeeks entry for today...

The Dindle (Part 3)

Sorry for the delay in posting. Not only was the internet being stubborn, I had a lengthy adventure which included a little boy trying to steal my pencil sharpener at the Toyota dealership, running across two highway on-ramps and eating at a sketchy diner where I made the poor (or gutsy?) decision to chase pickles with chocolate milk. Because everyone was so kind and encouraging yesterday, I gave painting another shot this morning. Happily the one character and simple background made things come together far quicker. Yay! Oh and here's a picture of the Ant Bully panel at the San Diego Comic-Con that Tony took. Thankfully, I had no clue we were being projected up all Citizen Kane style until after it was over. From left to right we have Chris Consani, John Davis, Buck Lewis and myself. Bob Eggleton was on the panel too, just out of frame on the left.

Gaah, I wish I could paint faster. I keep running over my hour of daily blog art time. I think I'm gonna finish up this story with nice sketches, rather than rushed paintings like this one. Not sure how I like this font, the 'y' is spaced strangely on 'tiny and fluffy'. Hmm.

So I plan to post the occasional story on the blog. I told my husband this story once while in a silly mood, and it ended up in that little library of stories in my head.

Back from San D!

Yay! I'm back from the San Deigo Comic-Con. It was awesome. Didn't really draw all that much (too much walking around, having fun and spending lots of money on pretty art) but here are some new things anyway. I know I promised to post a bunch of stuff after being away so long... This top one is a sketch from the plane that I painted when I woke up this morning. Here are a couple (rough) character designs I also did on the plane home. I decided while at the con that I should occasionally use the daily posts to tell little stories. The first will be about these guys. Look for the first part tomorrow morning. And lastly... a rough for my drawergeeks entry for this week. Hopefully I can get it done in time. Now it's time to eat lunch! Yum!

First page!

Image
Here's the first page of the graphic novel I'm working on... well technically it's the second page, but the first page didn't give me enough to work with when it came to establishing a look for the story. I finished two versions, because the first time round I came up with something that wasn't quite right; lots of line work and not all that painterly. Happily, the second way is also far quicker... one day's work opposed to three. I didn't bother putting in the dialogue, because I want to make a few small changes. Up till now, I've just been roughing things out. Here's the rough for this page: I'll be at the Comic-con in San Deigo for most of next week, so aside from maybe Monday, I won't be updating the blog with new drawings. I'm hoping to draw something everyday while in California though, so I'll post all that when I get back.

Lost in the rain...

The plan is to post page one of the graphic novel later today. I just have a couple corrections to make. Hurrah!

No peace or love.

I didn't intend for this hippy to look so sad.

Lawnmower!

Was inspired by my flannel lawn gnome pajama pants. Thought this morning it might be nice to have some quick messy colour too. For anyone who's ever read Rien Poortvliet's fantastic Gnomes book, you might like his lesser known Dog's book too. It's full of extremely pretty art.

Chicken Boo

This is for drawergeeks in homage to my favorite animaniacs sketch. Hey and thanks everyone so much for commenting on the daily posts. I really appreciate the feedback about the blog and website. Hurrah!

Argh!

Thought things were getting a little too girly with the morning drawings.

Rocket Scientists

Thanks to Pinky, Theodore and Becka, my models for today.

Sugar, spice and everything nice.

Today I drew these girls. Wanted to paint them too... but ran out of time.

Random Gents

Yay holiday yesterday! I didn't bother picking a theme today and just let whatever wanted to show up on the paper this morning show up. I like the first one best and the last one looks a little Harry Pottery to me.

Thought I'd draw something from the TV show that I've been half watching while working on the comic lately. Ended up looking a little like tinkerbell, but I think that's okay. I bet tinkerbell could slay some vamps. Things are still looking all pretty on the cintiq yet blown out on the laptop. I threw the line drawing back in over this painting to make sure it reads on everyone else's monitors, but it's really just supposed to be the painting.
